Unidentified bus driver knocks down pedestrian in Pune

An unidentified person was knocked down by a private bus (MH-15 AK 2020) while crossing the Jedhe Chowk at around 1.45 am on Monday.

An unidentified person was knocked down by a private bus (MH-15 AK 2020) while crossing the Jedhe Chowk at around 1.45 am on Monday. However, the identity of the deceased is yet to establish as none has approached the Swargate police station to claim the body.

The accident occurred when the private bus was heading towards Jedhe Chowk from Satara Road. The victim, a pedestrian aged 40-45 years, was killed on the spot after being hit by the bus driven by Gangadhar Bapurao Dighe (42) of Nashik district.

The police said that Dighe allegedly fled from the spot after the accident and was later arrested for rash and negligent driving under IPC, 1860. Dighe was produced before the city court and granted bail. Sub-inspector PM Shelke of Swargate police station said, "We have informed all police stations about any missing complaint, but no one has approached us so far."

The Swargate police have appealed to citizens to contact the station on 020-24452769, if someone has any information about the deceased.
