Unauthorised structures would get only 24 hrs notice: BMC

The civic chief has instructed his staff that developers suspected of building unauthorised structures would be given 24 hours to prove they have required permissions.

Mumbai municipal commissioner Subodh Kumar today said he has asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officers to demolish additional floors builit without BMC's sanction.

"The civic body will demolish additional floors that have been built up illegally without the permission of the building proposal department," Kumar said here today.

The civic chief has instructed his staff that developers suspected of building unauthorised structures would be given 24 hours to prove they have required permissions. If they fail to do so, demolition must be undertaken.

The Bombay high court had earlier this week directed the BMC to start survey of suburban Malad area and prepare a list of all illegal constructions in that area.
