The Maharashtra government today announced compensation of Rs one lakh each for the families of
six children and two women who died in a slab collapse incident in Ulhasnagar in the neighbouring Thane district
yesterday.
Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan told the Legislative Assembly that the five-storey building was illegally constructed in 1993.
However, it had not been listed as a dangerous building. It had been now vacated and the municipal council was
conducting a structural inspection, Chavan added.
