Defending his party’s rule in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday harped on how the BMC, while expending its massive developmental budget, had stayed clear of corrupt ways.
‘’If you asked of any corruption case in the BMC being inquired into, the answer is ‘there is none.’ For, there’s not been a single instance of corruption in the civic body while it expended Rs40,000 crore for various projects. This has been stated in the Congress-NCP ruled assembly,’’ said Thackeray at an interactive sessionat the Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh on Wednesday.
Hitting back at enstranged cousin and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, who had recently levelled corruption charges against the BMC, Uddhav said, ‘’Isn’t it the same party that’s fighting against us this election? But they won’t acknowledge the fact that there are no corruption cases against the Sena-ruled BMC. Then how can any person just get up and accuse us of being corrupt.”
On the issue of giving the road contracts to certain contractors in the state, however, the Sena CEO was quick to pass the buck on the state. ‘’The process is sanctioned by the state government. How can we be held responsible for giving these contracts?’’ he asked.
