Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray today launched a scathing attack on the Congress-NCP alliance while targeting deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar even as the NCP and Shiv Sena leadership recently announced a truce following a spate of mudslinging from both the sides.

Speaking at the rally of newly forged alliance of Shiv Sena, BJP and RPI (A) at Azad Maidan here, Uddhav lashed out at the Congress-led UPA government for criticising senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj over her impromptu dance at Rajghat in Delhi.

"She (Swaraj) was dancing on the tune of patriotic songs and not any disco songs," Thackeray said adding that even former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had also broken into jigs with tribals and so did the US president Barack Obama, who shook his legs to "Koli" songs during his Mumbai visit.

Reacting to the controversy over Swaraj's dance, Uddhav said, "Congress should not teach the importance of Rajghat to us. If the Congress has so much love for Gandhiji then it should have dissolved the Congress party after independence".

Targeting Ajit Pawar, Uddhav said, "He (Pawar) says Balasaheb Thackeray has not done anything like building educational institutions and industries. But if he wants to see what the Sena supremo has done then he should ask the poor people here."

"If he (Pawar) is unable to digest that what he has got today is because of the blessings of his uncle and union minister Sharad Pawar, then Shiv Shakti and Bhim Shakti can make him realise it as we possess that much strength," he said.

Despite presence of all prominent leaders, senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde did not turn up for the rally. Munde was also absent in the similar rallies held earlier in Pune, Nashik and Nagpur last month.

Around 60,000 workers from Shiv Sena, BJP and RPI (A) from across the state attended the rally braving heavy rains.

RPI (A) president Ramdas Athawale criticised the ruling combine of Congress and NCP over issues of price rise and inflation saying that condition of the poor in the state was fast deteriorating.

Athawale recently created ripples in state politics after he crossed over to Shiv Sena deserting the Congress-NCP alliance.

"We were with them ( Congress and NCP) for 20 years and were used only for voting purpose," he alleged.

He further went on to say that during the rule of Congress and NCP in the state no upliftment was done of the backward classes and it has only benefited the rich.

Athawale, however, said that the recently forged alliance with Shiv Sena and BJP was not meant for political purpose ahead of polls to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation but on peoples' issues.

Senior Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi, however, expressed confidence that the alliance with RPI will remain in vogue for 100 years contrary to what Ramdas Athawale has said.
