Mumbai: The Trombay police have arrested two youths, of whom one raped a 5-year-old girl, while the other abetted the crime. The two — Naresh Sutar, 18, and Dilip Solanki, 22 — and the victim are residents of Cheetah Camp locality in Trombay.
Sutar and Solanki are natives of Rajasthan and work for a sweet mart shop in Cheetah Camp. According to the Trombay police, the accused lured the victim with chocolate to the mezzanine floor of the shop on Monday at around 6 pm. Sutar then allegedly raped her while Solanki misbehaved with the girl and helped Sutar in committing the crime.
When the victim returned home crying and her parents noticed bleeding in her private parts, they approached the police and registered a complaint against the suspects.
A senior police officer from the Trombay police station said, “The victim identified the duo and showed us the shop. Acting on these inputs, and after medical tests confirmed rape, and the duo was arrested and booked for rape and criminal intimidation.”
On Tuesday, residents of Cheetah Camp, along with some political leaders, staged a protest at the Trombay police station for booking only one of the accused for rape, and the other for a lighter charge of criminal intimidation. The shop in which the two worked was vandalised by the protesters.
