Mumbai: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the customs department recently arrested two passengers at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport for trying to smuggle 19.53kg of ketamine hydrochloride -- better known as 'date rape' drug -- to Jakarta.

The drug was concealed in the corners of a cardboard carton. "Kareem Najimudeen and Rabetheen Jawahar were arrested and remanded in judicial custody till November 23 by the esplanade court," said a customs officer. A manhunt has been launched to nab one Raju who had supplied them with the drug.

The two were intercepted by the AIU officers just before they were about to board a Thai Airways flight to Jakarta. On opening the cardboard carton which Najimudeen was carrying, the officials noticed that it had two wooden corner stands. On removing them they found Ketamine powder concealed inside.

During interrogation, Najimudeen said the drugs were given to him by Jawahar outside the airport. Jawahar, claimed that Raju gave him the drug and asked him to accompany Najimudeen for which he would be paid Rs10,000.
