Even as the civic administration continues to battle malaria, which has assumed epidemic-like proportions, rain-related illnesses continue to claim lives in the city.

Two more victims have fallen to malaria, taking the death toll since July to 26. A 50-year-old man from Goregaon (East) was admitted to hospital on August 3 with suspected malaria.

His condition deteriorated rapidly and he died a day later, said civic officials.

Another 16-year-old man from Haji Ali died of malaria on Wednesday after being admitted to hospital earlier in the day.
One patient died of leptospirosis and one of H1N1.

A 45-year-old patient from Byculla, who was admitted due to suspected leptospirosis on August 2, died on August 4. A 40-year-old woman from Kurla (East) died of the H1N1 on Tuesday.
