Munni became more badnaam and Sheila’s jawani was wasted when two patrons of a Malad bar landed in jail for coming to blows over their favourite song. The clash of item numbers also left a plain clothes’ cop bruised when he tried to separate the duo.

The Dindoshi police have arrested Mayur Nitin Shah, 28, and Vinod Mohan Advani, 29, both residents of Kandivli (East).

According to the police, on December 31 at around 9.30pm, Shah and Advani, who know each other, were listening to live orchestra in Kaka Bar and Restaurant located in Malad (East). One of them told the bar singer that he wanted to listen to Sheila Ki Jawani, a hit song from the film Tees Maar Khan, while other started pressuring her to sing Dabangg’s Munni Badnaam Hui.

Soon, a heated argument broke out between the two, but before anyone could react, it turned into a full-blown fight. The brawl turned serious when other customers in the bar weighed in on the argument and started creating a ruckus.

“Chorge, police constable attached to the Dindoshi police station, was inside the bar in plain cloths at the time and asked the owners to shut the music as the deadline was up,” said a police officer. “The singer was asked to leave and sent back to the green room. Chorge then tried to disperse the crowd, which angered the patrons and they turned on him as they did not know he was a police constable,” the officer said.

Vinayak Kakade, senior inspector of Dindoshi police station, said, “The duo was arrested soon after the incident. They had assaulted the police constable, who called the police station and a police van was rushed to the spot in a few minutes.”

“We have arrested them under sections 353 and 332, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which relate to assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty, and voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty,” Kakade said. “They were produced in a local court and remanded in police custody for two days, after which they were released on bail,” said the senior inspector.
