TV actress held for gambling

Balika Vadhu star and four others arrested from Mulund building after residents’ complaint.

Five persons, including a TV actress, were arrested by the Mulund police for gambling in a flat on Friday night. Acting on a complaint received from a resident, the Mulund police raided flat number A-404 in Redwood Society in Mulund (W) at 11.30pm on Friday. 

On reaching the flat, the police found that eight persons were involved in gambling.

O fwhich, Balika Vadhu fame TV actress Aruna Narula, 42, and four others, Madhuri Thakkar, 52, Raman Chamanlal Narula, 45, Nisha Shah and Kalpana Bhanushali were arrested. The couple Aruna and Raman lived in Yogi Hill in Mulund.

An on-duty police officer said, “The flat belonged to Madhuri Thakkar. The society residents claimed that several unknown people have been visiting the flat for the last few days. After finding it suspicious, they informed the control room.”

Complainant Sunil Desai, secretary of the society, said, “Many people were entering the A-wing after 9.30pm. On being asked, the persons were reluctant to tell where they were headed. Finally, on being pressed  they revealed that they had come to flat no 404 in A-wing and were invited to play cards. So I informed the control room. They were eight people in all — four men and four women. However, three men managed to escape.”

He claimed that the police have surveyed the building for gambling earlier too. Post the arrest, Desai also filed an FIR stating that the five persons threatened him for reporting the activities to the police. A case has been registered under Section 480 of IPC. All five persons were released on bail on Saturday.
