The sole trustee of the Lila Parulekar Trust, Chandrashekhar Hari Joshi (65), was arrested by Vishrambaug police on Friday evening after a city court rejected his anticipatory bail plea.

Lila Parulekar, the septuagenarian ailing daughter of Sakal newspaper’s founder-editor, Nanasaheb Parulekar, had lodged a complaint against Joshi on February 17 accusing him of misusing the trust’s funds.
After the complaint was lodged, Joshi through his counsel, Nandu Phadke, moved an anticipatory bail application before a city court.
The Vishrambaug police said Joshi was arrested under sections of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, pertaining to criminal breach of trust, cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property. He will be produced before a court on Saturday.
Parulekar had alleged that Joshi is misusing the funds of the trust, founded by her father on June 28, 1972, to meet her medical and personal expenses. She alleged that Joshi had sold some shares of the trust without her consent and the amount he received was used for his personal benefit.
According to the complainant, her father had given his shares of Sakal Papers Ltd to the trust and appointed four persons as trustees, including himself, his wife (Lilatai’s mother) Shantabai Parulekar, and two others, Colonel (retd) VV Joshi and Jaswantlal Matubhai.
The complainant said after the demises of Nanasaheb, Shantabai and Col Joshi, the fourth trustee, Matubhai, resigned and appointed Joshi as a trustee without consulting Lila. The complainant said she filed a suit and objected to the appointment.
Parulekar alleged in the FIR that Joshi has not given any financial help to here and did not seek permission from her while spending the trust’s funds.
