He was one of the most trusted men and was considered as part of the family, but he breached the trust of his employer by pocketing his boss’ ancestral valuables and antiques worth lakhs of rupees. The Gamdevi police on Saturday arrested a man for allegedly committing theft at the residence of his employer, a real estate businessman.

The arrested person has been identified as Sachin Hiralal Kanojia.

According to the police, victim Jaysingh Ambikapratapsingh Sisodiya, who is into real estate business, stays with his wife in Gamdevi area. “Kanojia, who has been working with Sisodiya for the past 15 years, was considered as one of the most trusted person by the victim. Since Sisodiya travelled abroad often, he left the keys of his office and residence with Kanojia,” said an officer from Gamdevi police station.

He added that, recently the couple found that antiques, ornaments and valuables worth Rs15.50 lakh were missing from their house. “Sisodiya’s wife then lodged a complaint against an unknown person in this regard with the Gamdevi police station. When we inquired with them whether they suspect anyone behind the theft, they never doubted Kanojia,” said the officer.

“Since Kanojia was given residence keys in Sisodiya’s absence, we brought him for enquiries and on sustained questioning he broke down and confessed of having stolen the valuables. He has been remanded in police custody till September 30 by the concerned court. We are in the process of recovering the stolen valuables from him. Also we will investigate what was the need for him to break Sisodiya’s trust and steal valuables from his residence,” said another police officer.
