The court hearing the November 26, 2008 terror attack case urged the prosecution and defence lawyers to finish the final arguments by Monday so that it can reserve the judgment in the case. The final judgment is likely to be delivered in a month’s time, said court sources.

First additional principal judge ML Tahaliyani asked special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam how much time he would take to finish arguing the case. Nikam said he would take a maximum of two days.

The two defence lawyers told the court that they would take a day each to argue their case.

The judge said, “This would mean that we need four working days to finish the case. We can reserve the judgment either on Saturday or Monday.”

After reserving the judgment, the judge may indicate by what time he would deliver the judgment. Tahaliyani will have to pore through the evidence of 658 witnesses and documents submitted by the prosecution.

After the judgment, the judge will either convict or acquit the accused. If convicted, then both prosecution and defence will argue about the sentence given to the accused. Considering both arguments, the judge will then award the sentence to each of the three accused.
