Joint police commissioner Himanshu Roy's mother and IPS officer-turned-lawyer YP Singh own flats in the controversy-hit Harsiddhi Heights whose demolition has been sought by the Indian navy due to its close proximity to a naval base.

The navy had approached the high court in October 2010 seeking demolition of the 18-storey structure in Worli as it had not obtained the requisite ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) from western naval authorities before construction.

The Bombay high court had, on January 13, ordered an interim stay on further sale of flats and an induction of occupants in the building and directed the builder to submit a list of all present occupants.

Denying any wrongdoing in the purchase of the flat by his mother, crime branch chief Roy said, “My mother bought the flat a few years ago through a bank loan. She is a tax-paying citizen and has all the documents.”

He continued, “As per rules, I informed my higher authority when she bought the flat. Moreover, I never dealt with any file pertaining to the construction,” the high-profile IPS officer said, apparently hinting at officials who secured flats in scam-hit Adarsh Housing Society, allegedly in return for giving clearances.

Lawyer YP Singh alleged that Harsiddhi Heights was being targetted as he had helped expose the Adarsh scam. “I bought the flat with my hard-earned money. Such tactics will not deter me from exposing corrupt people,” he said.
