Shri Poona Gujarati Bandhu Samaj that was established in 1913 has been working for the betterment of the Gujaratis residing in the city.

One of the major problems at that time was that there was just one university exclusively for the community and that too in Mumbai.

For this precise reason, Gujarati people had to study in Marathi schools.

And there was no organisation that would work for their needs. This is when the Gujaratis residing in Pune came forward and formed the Shri Poona Gujarati Bandhu Samaj in 1913.

The community has been involved in business and trade for decades and this year the Samaj is celebrating its centenary year. The Samaj has planned several educational, cultural, social and business-related events every month during the year. Prominent speakers, experts, political personalities and well-known people from various fields will be invited. These events will be open to all members of the society and will also bring the Gujarati community closer.

The Poona Blind Men’s Association HV Desai Hospital in the city is another example of major contribution of the Gujarati community to their brethren and the citizens of Pune.
