The Nagpada police arrested Monu Sachdeo, 25, owner of the Ranee Bar & Restaurant at Sindhi Colony in Chembur, on Wednesday.
In an act of revenge, a Chembur-based restaurant owner abducted and raped a bar girl's 12-year-old sister in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday night after the bar girl turned down his marriage proposal. He also kidnapped the bar girl's four-month-old nephew.
The Nagpada police arrested Monu Sachdeo, 25, owner of the Ranee Bar & Restaurant at Sindhi Colony in Chembur, on Wednesday.
A Hyundai Accent (MH-01-MA-5737), three mobile phones and Rs16,000 cash were recovered from him. He has been remanded in police custody till October 11.
Senior inspector Sanjay Kadam said the girl and the baby boy have been rescued. Medical examination of the girl confirmed rape, he said.
The victim has been sent to Dongri Observation Home.
Janvi Mojiwala, 21, her four-month-old son Pranav and two sisters, Nandini, 19, and Shanti, 12, were living at Bagdadi compound in Nagpada for the last two months on rent. Janvi and Nandini worked as bar girls in Priya Ladies Bar at Byculla, while Shanti stayed home to look after Pranav. Their parents live in Jaipur in Rajasthan.
The police said Sachdeo knew both the bar girls for the past three years and used to visit them frequently. After some time, he fell in love with Nandini. However, Nandini turned down his proposal as she was seeing one Nadeem.
After being snubbed by Nandini, Sachdeo decided to take revenge.
Sachdeo went to Nagpada in his car and contacted Shanti on her mobile phone saying Nadeem wants to see her and her nephew. Sachdeo took Shanti and the baby boy to Sanpada where he hired a room in Hotel Neel Kiran. He then raped Shanti.
“When we reached home on Monday night we were shocked to find Pranav and Shanti missing. After checking Shanti’s mobile phone, I came to know that the last call was made by Sachdeo. Suspecting foul play, I lodged a kidnapping complaint at the Nagpada police station on Tuesday morning," said Janvi.
