The 23-year old US national and student of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (Tiss), who was allegedly raped by city college students on April 14 last year and has been incommunicado so far, broke her silence to express dissatisfaction after hearing the court’s judgement.
On Wednesday, a sessionscourt judge at the fast-track court in Sewri acquitted all six students accused of gang-raping her, as he did not find the alleged victim to be a reliable witness, as well as due to the absence of satisfactory and supporting evidence.
However, the news came as a surprise to the US national. According to sources, she reacted with disbelief, constantly inquiring into what the court had said. She seemed extremely upset, sounded impatient and wondered how the judgement had gone against her. She wanted more details of the verdict, said a source.
She has now been advised that it would be too early to lose hope and to wait till she gets a copy of the judgement. She has been tracking the progress of the case online, reading up whatever the Indian media has reported on the case on the internet, said the source.
