TISS gangrape case: Judicial custody of six extended

Mumbai: A local court has extended till May 27 the judicial custody of the six accused in TISS foreign national gangrape case.


The Kurla metropolitan magistrate extended the judicial custody of the six accused, who were produced before the court via video conference.

The six accused - Vinamra Soni, Anish Borkataki, Kundanraj Borgohain, Harshavardhan Yadav, Jasakaran Bhullar and Dev Colabawalla - were arrested for raping a 23-year-old US national, student of the Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS) last month.

One of the accused asked the court as to when the police would file chargesheet in the case and if they can move for bail.

Magistrate SR Navander told the accused that the prosecution can file the chargesheet at anytime within the 90 days period and that he can move the sessions court for bail.

The prosecution informed the court that the victim and other witnesses in the case had identified all the accused in the identification parade held on May 5 inside Thane prison.

Police also told the court that they are awaiting the forensic report of the memory card of Soni's digital camera, with which he had clicked photographs on the night of the alleged incident.
