The long-pending electrification of villages in the Mose Valley, near Lavasa Lake City, received a shot in the arm with the electrification of three villages on Wednesday.

A press statement from MahaDiscom on Wednesday stated that the three villages of Bhoini, Dasve and Padalghar began receiving electricity for the first time on Wednesday morning.

Baramati MP, Supriya Sule, inaugurated the streetlights in Malegaon village and laid the foundation stone for the electrification work of the remaining eight villages in the valley.

DNA had first reported in its January 16 edition (Lavasa at night reveals two faces of development) how 11 villages in the Mose Valley surrounding Lavasa Lake City were without electricity, even as the milti-crore-rupee elite township project enjoyed high-tension power facilities.

The first report was followed up with four more reports (February 17, March 23, May 11, July 6) which highlighted the slow pace of work on the part of MahaDiscom.

Following the reports in the DNA, the state government finally sanctioned Rs3.82 crore to install 62 km of high-tension lines, 10 km of low-tension lines and 10 transformers of 63 kW each to service the11 villages and an estimated 400 households in them.

A MahaDiscom official told DNA that work on the electrification of the remaining eight villages was proceeding at a fast pace.
