In a major blow to absconding gangster Ravi Pujari, Mumbai crime branch officials arrested three shooters of Pujari’s gang allegedly involved in a shootout at a Nashik-based builder’s office in February, injuring two of his employees.

“Sanjay Ram Bhadur Singh alias Sanjay Thapa, 32; Vikas Madansingh, 21 and Arvind Chavan, alias Chintu, 35, were arrested by police inspector Arun Chavan when they came to Kurla (East) to deliver firearms,” said joint commissioner of police (crime) Himanshu Roy, on Saturday. Roy added that they were carrying a revolver, a country-made katta or pistol and cartridges. The three were remanded to police custody till May 6 by the Esplanade court on Saturday.

During interrogation, the trio confessed that they, along with their associate Santosh Singh, barged into the site office of Ekta Valley Green Construction company in Nashik at the instruction of gang leader Pujari on February 25, 2011 at around 12pm. They fired at the employees of the builders and later escaped from the spot.

Two employees — Ranjeet Aher, 26 and Devika Konditkar, 21 were seriously injured in the shoot-out. The Indira Nagar police station in Nashik registered a case of attempt to murder against the Pujari gangster.

Sources said Ravi Pujari gave Rs3 lakh in cash to Sanjay Thapa for the shoot-out. Later, Thapa gave Rs2 lakh to the two shooters, Vikas Kumar and his brother Sanjay Kumar Singh to do the job. After the incident, Singh was killed in an accident at his native place on March 5.
