Three detained in Thane for transporting Rs20 lakh

Three persons, who were allegedly transporting cash currency to the tune of Rs20 lakh in Rs10 denomination notes have been detained for interrogation, police said on Sunday.

The trio were travelling in a car from Nashik to Navi Mumbai when a team of police men, on a tip off, intercepted them between Kalyan and Dombvili and seized the cash packed in four bags.

The three accused -- Shebrao Nalawade, Ganesh Phalke and Kiran Phalke -- told police that the cash was being taken from Bank of India's Nashik branch to Navi Mumbai for distributing change which hoteliers needed.

Police are probing the case as the currency notes have been brought from Nashik where the government's security press is located.
