The BMC will may penalise people for using potable water for non-potable purpose. The civic general body meeting on Monday passed the notice of motion asking for a provision of penalty for misuse of potable water.

Vinod Shekhar, Congress corporator from Colaba, moved a notice of motion in the civic house demanding a provision to penalise those who are found wasting potable water. Wastage could mean anything from using it for watering one’s garden, construction purposes, washing cars to keeping the water taps running. “The BMC treats the water and then supplies it to the citizens. If the citizens waste it, then there should be some provision of penalty,” said Shekhar.

The notice of motion was approved. It will now be sent to the government for further modification. If the governmentis convinced with it, then it will convert into law after a discussion.
