The Shiv Sena, along with residents of the Pimpri-Chinchwad area, staged a rasta roko on Tuesday in Thergaon to protest against the tardy pace of road work between Kalewadi Phata and Dange Chowk that has been going on for
over a year.

The protest was led by Sena corporator Shrirang Barne, who alleged that the contractor of the Rs40-crore project was unable to complete even 50% of the work in a year.

He had filed many complaints with the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) but no action was taken. “The ongoing work is causing a lot of inconvenience to the residents. It is even difficult for them to walk as huge quantities of stones and gravel are strewn across the road. The condition of the road is so bad that people are forced to risk their lives while driving,” he said.

Many a time water and electricity connections are snapped and not restored for long periods due to the ongoing construction, Barne added.

He discussed all these problems with the residents and led a protest and demanded that the PCMC take action against the contractor and get the work done as soon as possible.

He pointed out, “The corporation fines people if they do not pay taxes in time, or cut off water connection if the bills are not paid. But no such action is taken against the contractor, who has not completed even half the work in the
given time.”

Many people along with businessmen and local residents came forward and protested against the PCMC’s inaction in the matter.
