Gone are the days when an artist’s life translated into that of struggle and suffering. Enter commercial fine art, and the artists can lead a comfortable life.  If you are able to pen your imagination in reality using creative concepts, then a career in fine arts could just be the right option for you.

Fine arts broadly refer to a combination of various art forms like painting, dance, music, drama, sculpting, interior design, ceramic design, mural design and pottery design to get ideas across. With the recent growth of consumerism, traditional forms of arts have been converted into commercially profitable sectors also called commercial fine-art.

Stating that employment opportunities in fine arts are on rise, counsellors say many a youth are entering the field in search of higher remuneration, prestige and popularity. “Commercial fine art gives individuals a technical finesse, which has become the need of the hour. But a formal training and not merely diplomas is important,” said RSS Mani, management educationist and career counsellor and currently vice-president, ITM Group of Institutions.

BFA a must
A majority of those seeking a career in the field pursue a Bachelors of Fine Arts, a three-year degree course. Among the various things taught at the BFA are the possible ways commercialising fine arts, art products and conversion of the imaginary into reality.  Students can pursue a BFA across several niche arts ranging from applied arts, history of art, sculpture, graphic art, visual arts, graphics print making, and commercial arts.

Untrodden path
After pursuing a fine art degree, one can enter several unconventional fields, among them being a freelancer to design murals, portraits and also auction the creations at exhibitions. Apart from conducting workshops for professionals, one can write reviews in art magazines or even evolve as a critic.
