The latest plan of terrorists involved in the ‘Karachi Project’ could be to simultaneously attack multiple cities. It will not give the police the time to react, and will cause maximum damage, feel the terrorists.

Sustained interrogation of the alleged terrorist duo — Abdul Latif Rashid alias Guddu, 29, and Riyaz Ali Imtiaz alias Rehan — has revealed that this pattern might be followed in a series of terror attacks likely to be executed soon across India,
a senior ATS official said on Friday.

“This is a disturbing revelation. The plan, if executed, can wreak havoc,” he said, adding that the ATS had alerted the National Investigation Agency and the National Security Guards about it.

The Indian Mujahideen (IM), a terror outfit suspected to be a brainchild of the ‘Karachi Project’, has triggered serial blasts across India since 2008. “Blasts had been triggered one after another in cities like Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad. Now, the terrorists are planning simultaneous strikes in multiple cities,” the ATS officer said.

The ATS arrested brother-in-laws Abdul, a resident of Behrampada in Bandra (East), and Riyaz, a resident of Koyla Bhavan Chawl in Dahisar, on March 13. The two had allegedly planned to attack the ONGC headquarters in Bandra, Thakkar Mall in Borivli and Mangaldas Market in South Mumbai.

The ATS was tipped off about the duo by the Intelligence Bureau (IB), which had intercepted suspicious phone conversations between the two accused and a certain ‘chacha’ in Karachi.
The ‘Karachi Project’ — a joint venture of the ISI and the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) — allegedly has fugitive underworld dons and terrorists from India involved in it too.
