A terrorist from Mumbai has been detained in the UAE. Sources in the Dubai police said Madhiya Gulam Hyder Dawood, who is wanted in many cases in India, was detained in the second week of February. But the police got to know about his terrorist background in the first week of March.
A red corner notice number A661/12 was issued against him by the CBI in 1996. According to the notice, Dawood was born in Mumbai on January 2, 1962, and speaks Marathi, Gujarati and Hindi.
He is wanted in India on charges of criminal conspiracy, murder, violation of firearms Act and terrorist activities, the Interpol notice further mentioned.
Though senior police officers refused to comment on record, sources revealed that Dawood took an active part in the serial Mumbai blasts of 1993 and escaped to Pakistan via Dubai.
During his stay in Pakistan, Dawood managed to acquire a new identity and passport. That is the reason that Dubai police took several days to establish his true identity.
A high-level delegation of UAE administration is visiting New Delhi and it was learnt that the CBI would take up the issue of his repatriation to India.
