Stamp scam kingpin Telgi gets 3 years in forgery case

Mumbai: A special court today convicted and sentenced Abdul Karim Telgi, kingpin of the multi-crore fake stamp paper scandal, to three years in jail for submitting forged documents to procure a passport in 2001.

Telgi, who had pleaded guilty in the case, was today convicted by special CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) judge Chitra Bedi.

According to the prosecution, Telgi had in 2001 submitted various documents at the regional passport office in Mumbai to procure a passport.

But after completing the procedure, Telgi never collected the passport. When the passport office learnt that the documents submitted by Telgi were forged, a complaint was lodged against him.

Telgi was convicted in the case today under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Passport Act.
