Four teenagers from Ketkipada, Dahisar (East), gang-raped a mentally retarded 13-year-old girl from the area on Tuesday afternoon. According to Dahisar police, Vaibhav Kadam, 23, Mahesh Parkar, 21, Ramesh Begar, 20, and Sameer Rajbhar, 19, stayed as paying guests in one room of Ketkipada’s Sadguru Chawl. They worked as office boys in different companies.
The victim Usha (name changed to protect identity) lives with her parents and two brothers in the locality. On Tuesday morning, Usha visited her uncle, who lives nearby. The four boys were in their room watching a film. Around 1pm the girl was walking back home when one of the boys invited her in to watch the film. When Usha entered, they locked the door, turned up the volume and raped her turn by turn.
Usha was allowed to return home but warned not to tell anyone what had happened. However, she confided in her mother, and the mother took her to the police station and lodged a complaint of rape against the boys. The victim was taken to Bhagwati Hospital for tests, where it was established that she had been raped.
Police arrested the four boys around midnight and booked them. They were medically examined, produced before the Borivli court on Wednesday and remanded in police custody till November 30.
“The accused have confessed to gang- raping the victim. Since she is mentally unstable, we will conduct some tests on her on Thursday at Bhagwati Hospital,” said PI Anil Powar of Dahisar police station.
