An angry father and an irate mob handed over a 17-year-old boy to the Vakola police for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl a few days ago. On Tuesday, the accused had once again tried to lure the child, the police said.

The accused, Rahim Shaikh (name changed) is a resident of Dauri Nagar, Vakola, Santa Cruz (East). The victim is the daughter of a dabbawala.

"On October 31, around 7.30 pm, Shaikh had spotted the girl playing outside her house. He approached the child and promised to give her chocolates if she came with him," said Sanjay Patil, inspector, Vakola police station. "He took her to a secluded spot and gagged her. He had unnatural sex with her and then let her go to home."

After returning home, the victim started to complain of pain and was bleeding. She then told her mother about the incident, who in turn informed the child's father, said Patil.
However, on Tuesday, Shaikh once again approached the child while she was playing.

"But she recognised him and called her father," said Ankush, the victim's neighbour. "She told him that Shaikh was the same man who had assaulted her a few days ago. The victim's father then called us for help. We locked Shaikh in a room and informed the Vakola police," he added.

According to the Ankush, this is not the first time Shaikh has attacked girls in the vicinity. "Earlier, he had physically assaulted two girls in the area but their parents did not want file a police complaint," he said.Shaikh has been arrested on charged of unnatural sex, the police said.
