With an aim to encourage people about environmentally-friendly electric vehicles, India Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) held its Techfest, launching the World Advanced Vehicle expedition Campaign.

This would involve an awareness road trip involving five electric vehicles, covering 25 cities.

With cars costing 60,000 euros (Rs41,58,000), the Swiss manufacturers of the vehicles feel that with more users, the cost will come down.

Nine Swiss citizens will begin their journey at Mumbai and stop in cities like Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Goa, Satara and Karwar. They will conduct interactive sessions and exhibitions discussing benefits of electric cars over IC-Engine cars.

Ronnie Philip, media manager for the Techfest, said, “India ranks 123rd in the Pollution Control statistics. The youth need to be aware of the green technologies being practised in other parts of the world.” The vehicles are on public display in Infiniti Mall, Malad, from Friday, 5pm onwards till 12 pm on Saturday.
