Fatigue is not a familiar feeling for 86-year-old RH Shetty, the veteran athletic who oversaw the preparation of the technical sporting needs for the event.

Speaking energetically of his experience, the president of the Mumbai city district athletics federation recalled how two weeks before the event, they would end up at BKC daily between 10pm-2am to measure distances, finalise routes, mark turning points etc., as the traffic density is low then.

“Fortunately, there was no problem with anything and the runners  did violate any norms,” said Shetty after the event on Sunday morning.

Expressing willingness to work for the women’s marathon again next year, Shetty lauded the fact that over 80% of the participants were mothers.
