Official of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a sale tax officer and a chartered accountant (CA) for accepting a bribe of Rs60,000 in Mazagaon from a wine shop owner.
ACB officers said that the complainant had appointed CA Kishor Dhanak to look into his income tax-related queries and submit documents to the income tax department. He paid Rs10,000 to Dhanak for his services.
The complainant has given Rs 20,000 to Dhanak to pay VAT to the sale tax department. However sale tax officer, Ashok Sanap, to whom he was introduced to by Dhanak, gave an official notice to the complainant for not paying the VAT money. Sanap then demanded Rs60,000 as bribe for a certificate for no dues of VAT.
“But the complainant do not wanted to give him the bribe and so approached the ACB office, following which the duo arrested,” said additional commissioner of police Niket Kaushik of the ACB.
