‘Tax tanker lobby’

Water drawn from wells and borewells in the city and supplied and sold through tankers should be charged sewerage tax, standing committee members demanded. BJP corporators alleged that the civic administration was taking a soft stand against the tanker lobby and should take stringent measures to curb the menace.

Apart from the ecological imbalance of drawing ground water, the tanker lobby deprives those people of water who cannot pay for it. The BMC has agreed to present the white paper on wells, as demanded by the standing committee, in due course.
