A local court on Saturday, remanded the 60-year-old businessman, who allegedly raped his two daughters after a tantrik reportedly told him that the act would bring prosperity to the family, to police custody till March 26.
His wife and the tantrik, Hasmukh Rathod, at whose behest the crime was supposedly committed, were also remanded to police custody till March 26.
The prosecution sought an extension of their custody, which ended on Saturday, to further investigate if some other persons were victimised by Rathod and whether the family, along with the tantrik was involved in any kind of flesh trade.
According to police, the couple was under the influence of Rathod who told them in July 2000 that the family would prosper if the father was to have a sexual relationship with his elder daughter, who was then 11.
The 20-year-old victim, who had been silent about her ordeal for nine years, mustered courage to approach the police after her father attempted to rape her younger sister (16) too.
The trio were arrested from Mira Road area in neighbouring Thane district on March 18.
