The Centre has asked the state home ministry to send out strong signals to its top police brass to speak less.
The union home ministry on Monday issued a warning to the state to keep classified information under wraps till investigation was complete.
The state home ministry which has been trying in vain to make headway in the Pune bomb blast was trying to show-off its investigative prowess of foiling another alleged terror attack in Mumbai. While appreciating the role of the ATS in nabbing two alleged terror suspects on Sunday and getting vital information that showed links with Pakistani operators, the Centre thinks they should have kept quiet till the probe was completed.
A senior state home ministry official said, “The Centre fears that such causal mention of Karachi links based on interception of telephone conversations, if proved wrong, could cause India major embarrassment.” Sources said, “RR Patil is going to hold a meeting with senior officers on dos and don’ts.”
