As a part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, Swiss company, DSM Composite Resins and their Indian partner Kemrock Industries, Vadodara, have constructed four classrooms at the Zilla Parishad Primary School in Kusgaon near Pune.

The companies have used fibreglass composite material (fibre reinforced polymer) in constructing the classrooms. DSM Composites has a factory at Ranjangaon near Pune.

The classrooms were inaugurated by president of DSM Composite Resins, Michael Effing, and CMD of Kemrock Industries and Exports, Kalpesh Patel, in Kusgaon recently.

The classrooms, covering an area of 2,000 square feet, are thermally-insulated, weatherproof, fire-resistant, non-corrosive, UV protected and earthquake proof, said Effing.

Effing said, “It is the first-ever school built in India entirely from our range of composite resins. The entire structure of the school was constructed within nine days from the composite material panels that are light, strong and corrosion-resistant.”

Speaking to mediapersons in the city on Friday, Effing said the CSR initiative was a part of their Project Shakti School.
“In future, we will use this model as a business proposition for the company. It is a modular concept used for the first time for building a school structure.”

Also present at the press conference were Rajiv Chopra, president, DSM India and other senior officials of DSM India.

According to Chopra, DSM will help the Kusgaon school by providing midday meals to the schoolchildren, jointly with International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). The company also plans to donate 10 laptops to the schoolchildren.
