The Pune police crime branch revealed on Saturday that army jawan Brijeshkumar Singh, could have connections with Pakistan.
Speaking to DNA on Saturday, assistant commissioner of police (crime) Prabhakar Patil said there was evidence of phone calls made by Singh to Pakistan.
The police have recovered several recharge vouchers of Dish Television, which Singh is supposed to have sent to Pakistan.
Singh's compliance in the suspected spy case came to the fore after Vishambhar Agarwal, 24, a Nigdi-based transport supervisor with alleged links with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), was arrested near the Alankar Theatre on February 1.
Agarwal revealed Singh's name during the police interrogation. Patil said police teams were on the way to the hometowns of Singh in Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) and Agarwal in Haryana. "We are scrutinising their account transaction details and cellphone call records," he said.
A police team comprising Patil, police inspectors Bhanupratap Barge, Satish Govekar and Sunil Tambe, and officers of the Southern Command interrogated Singh at the Signal Regiment in Ghorpadi under relevant sections of Official Secrets Act (1923) on Friday. Singh was also brought to the Pune police crime branch office to verify Agarwal's statements.
The police said Agarwal and Singh had met on a train after a Diwali vacation. While the motive is still unclear, the police said there was a commercial transaction between the two. The
police said the duo was misguiding investigators.
