With the online admissions process delaying the academic year by two months, colleges are in a hurry to make up for lost time.

But with no circulars on exams forthcoming from the
education board, principals find it difficult to draw lesson plans for the year.

Many colleges have already started classes for first year students, with the admission process still on.

First unit tests are usually held in August, while semester exams are held in September. “When there was a similar delay last year, the board had told us in advance that unit tests should be scrapped. But this year, even though we have lost so many days, no circulars have come from the board” said Suhas Pednekar, principal, Ruia College.

Colleges are also worried that the students who will join college late due to the delay in admissions, and those who will take the ATKT exams from October 27, will all lose out on a few days of college.

However, Anila Pillai, vice-principal, HR College, and a member of the core committee of the education board, is confident that colleges will catch up soon.“The board will announce the dates soon. We have a plan ready which will ensure that the portion
gets completed smoothly and in time without adding too much pressure on students and teachers,” she said.
