The stray dog menace touched a high in Pimpri-Chinchwad on Thursday when a dog went on a biting spree at Bhosari, hurting eight children, including a two-and-half-year-old, among 31 people.
Fortunately, the dog was not rabid and the injured were discharged after first aid at the civic hospital in Bhosari, Dr Satish Gore, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) veterinary officer said.
The PCMC staff swung into action and 15 stray dogs from the area were caught.
The injured persons belonged to Chakrapani Vasahat, Hanuman Colony, SBI Colony, Shriram Mandir, Hutatma Chowk, Jai Maharashtra Chowk and Durgamata Chowk of Bhosari area.
A horrified 13-year-old Khushal Kolte told DNA, “I was going home to Hanumant Colony after school at 1 pm when a stray dog attacked me and bit my right thigh. I was terribly frightened.”
Seven other children suffered dog bite injuries, including a two-and-half-year-old girl and a 5-year-old Shravani Gore, who was playing outside her house.
Local residents said the stray dog menace is very serious in the PCMC area and keeps recurring even after the civic authorities take preventive steps.
