A help has been arrested for allegedly making away with jewels worth Rs47.49 lakh from a Kalbadevi-based jewellery store where he worked for over two years.

According to the police,  Ashok Singh Rajput left the job at Sejal Jewellers on Kalbadevi Road six months ago after an argument with the owner, Rakesh Jain. But, a fortnight ago, Rajput reportedly phoned Jain and requested him to take him back, to which the jewellery store owner agreed.

On March 15, when Jain opened the shop, he found the drawers broken and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees missing. "The shop's cleaner Narayan told us that around 6.30am that day, he saw Rajput leaving the shop with two bags. On March 22, Jain told us he had come to know that Rajput was staying at a hotel in Navi Mumbai. He was arrested on Friday," said an officer from LT Marg police station. Rajput confessed that he had used the money from the booty to lead a lavish lifestyle, added the officer.
