The investigators probing the recent cases of robbery by children at marriage functions suspect the involvement of the catering and other staff. So far, at least six cases of robbery have been registered across various police stations and three girls in the age between 9-11 years were held in the case.

The police officials say the children, who are normally urchins, are dressed in good clothes for the occasion. The accused would first do a recce to know, where the valuables and the gifts are kept. The moment they get a chance, they would slip away with the loot.

The police officials involved with the investigations suspect that the manner in which the robbery has been executed, it hints at the involvement of the catering and the venue staff and will be questioning them.

Giving an example in support of their suspicion, police officials say that in the case of robbery at a marriage in Goregaon, it was a lady catering staffer who told the complainant twice that there was ice-cream pasted on her dress. The complainant, then went to the changing room, to clean the dress and during the second time her purse was flicked by an eight-year-old boy.

The officials add that there is a possibility that these children are brought inside the venue with help of the staff. “The children who are trained, then do the rest of the execution,” said a police officer.
