Parents and teachers of students appearing for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination this year, say questions based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) is the major factor that has been causing stress in the students. The examination will begin from March 1.

Algebra, geometry and science and technology are subjects which will have questions based on the new formula i.e. HOTS-based questions. HOTS which is going to be introduced for first time in 2012 board examination is nothing but practical application of theoretical knowledge that will test if students have understood the subject. Twelve marks are riding on HOTS questions and since this pattern is a departure from usual pattern of rote learning followed by the board for many years, students are nervous.

For several years, the board has followed a fixed paper pattern with easy and tough questions. Since the fixed paper pattern isn’t available, it is creating confusion, said a board official.

Helpline no. 9049992807, 9049992808 or 9049992809.

These are free helplines. If a student dials a number, his/her number will be noted along with difficulties in the subject. Then, the subject expert will call him/her.
