“Bhagawatam makes us time conscious and time consciousness is life consciousness for a selfless life and a life of discipline,” said well-known spiritual speaker Prema Pandurang.

Pandurang is currently in Mumbai to conduct a weeklong reading of the Bhagawatam scriptures — the story of Krishna’s life — conducted by the Vedic Research and Cultural History Centre at a Chembur temple hall from October 7. “Today, people are in turmoil and have all kinds of problems, but when you listen to the Bhagawatam, the lord enters your heart,” she added.

Pandurang’s reading and explanation of Hindu scriptures has brought lakhs of devotees to her programmes in India and abroad for the past 50 years. “It is said that Bhagawatam is about the lord’s devotees and how he helps them,” she said.

Pandurang, who heads the Kshetropasana Trust near Chennai and the Gokul Dham Mutt, said that she wants young people to understand the value of India’s ancient scriptures. “That is why I conduct my discourses in English,” she explained.

“Bhagawatham changes a person; it has changed my life,” she added.

“There is a lot of talk about software; I will say that we need to be soul-aware. The soul needs to be looked after,” said Pandurang.

The discourses are being held daily until Thursday, October 13, from 7pm to 9pm at Thiruchembur Murugan Temple, Chembur
