Speedind BEST bus rams into motorcycle; 1 killed

A boy was killed while his father was left severely injured after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding BEST bus at Mohammad Ali Road in Pydhonie area on Thursday night. The errant bus driver has been arrested by the Pydhonie police.

The arrested bus driver has been identified as Sandesh Vitthal Surve, 35, BEST driver and resident of Kasam Niwas Chawl at Worli Koliwada.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 9:05pm opposite Mandvi Post Office at Mohammad Ali Road, when Surve, who was driving BEST bus , was coming from CST and was headed towards JJ side.

“Surve was driving recklessly and was on high speed. He then dashed the bus into a motorcycle, which was on the left side ahead of the bus,” said an officer from Pydhonie police station.

“So intense was the impact of the accident, that pillion rider Faizal Rehman Tanku Ali Shaikh died in the accident, while his father and complainant Aalam Ahmed Sabir Ali Shaikh, a labourer, resident of BIT Chawl, sustained injuries on his left leg and hand,” said the officer.

Both were rushed to JJ Hospital and Surve was arrested under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act, police said.
