SpeakAsia was active in Bangladesh too: Police

Chartered accountant Sanjeev Dandona, 50, who was arrested by officials of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the city police on Thursday, was entrusted with the responsibility of setting up operations in Bangladesh by SpeakAsia, say police sources. They added that criminal cases have been registered against SpeakAsia in Bangladesh.

“He had established the company Kritanj Management and was looking into the money transfer business of SpeakAsia through this company. He had employed one Mansoor Patel, a retired assistant engineer from RCF Company, as the chief of his company on the record,” said additional commissioner of police, EOW, Rajvardhan.

The police revealed that Dandona was supposed to set up operations for SpeakAsia in Bangladesh. “SpeakAsia had organised some camps in Bangladesh and had lured people there to invest money in their company. Last year, Dandona had also visited Bangladesh to tie up with some consultants there. A criminal case is also registered against SpeakAsia panelists in Chittagong in Bangladesh. We suspect him to be involved in other multi-level marketing schemes that are running in the city,” said an EOW official.

The police also claim that Dandona’s chartered accountant certificate issued by the Institute of Cost and Work Accountants of India (ICWA), has been terminated.

Dandona is an Andheri resident and has an office in Lokhandwala. “In May this year, he had transferred the money in his bank accounts somewhere. We are getting details on his bank accounts and properties,” said another police officer.
