South Mumbai woman’s hubby charged with murder bid

Police investigation has revealed that the victim, Noorjehan, 35, suspected her husband Gaus Sayyed of having an extramarital affair and this woften resulted in heated arguments between the couple.

In the sensational case wherein a Malabar Hill couple and their three children suffered burn injuries in the wee hours of Wednesday, the police have said that the woman tried to burn herself following an argument with her husband over the latter’s extra-marital affair.

In fact, the Malabar Hill police on Thursday have registered an attempt-to-murder case against the 40-year old husband.
Police investigation has revealed that the victim, Noorjehan, 35, suspected her husband Gaus Sayyed of having an extramarital affair and this woften resulted in heated arguments between the couple.

According to the police, Noorjehan and Gaus began fighting at around 1.15am on Wednesday at their residence in Shimla Nagar slums near Hyderabad Estate in the Malabar Hill area.

“Initially, we believed that Noorjehan set herself ablaze after her fight with her husband. But with the information about a possible extramarital affair coming out, we are investigating whether Gaus deliberately set her on fire so that  he could continue his relationship with other woman,” said an officer who is investigating the case.

Noorjehan, who sustained 90% burns, is still critical. Three of her four children who tried to save their mother engulfed by the fire were also injured along with Gaus, said the police. “Once Gaus is discharged from the hospital, he will be arrested for interrogation,” said another officer from Malabar Hill police station.
