The coming year is going to be a mixed bag for Mumbaikars. On the positive side, astrologers are predicting early rain, no water cuts and development and economic stability in 2010. On the other hand, a possibility of a calamity by May 26, 2010, is being foreseen and the city dwellers are being asked to take care of their health.

According to astrologer Atulshastri Bhagre, the city will witness an unexpected event by May 26, 2010. “It could be a calamity — natural, political, social or individual. But that does not mean that 2010 will not be good. The city will also develop a lot and the developments in the second half will bring a good name for the city,” he said.

As far as the two eclipses, solar and lunar, are concerned, Bhagre said that there was nothing to worry about. “One cannot avoid the effects of the eclipses but there is no reason to worry. You should concentrate on your work,” he said.

Arun Shah, another astrologer, echoed Bhagre’s sentiments. “There will be some negative events by May 26, 2010. But the rains will arrive early, on June 6.”

Shah prepared his predictions after studying Indian as well as Chinese astrology. “The New Year will be full of optimism and humanitarianism,” he said. “The share market will bloom. The production of fruits and food grains will increase.”

An increase in cases of drunken driving is foreseen and people with a negative mindset will be rash and disobedient. Liver and lung diseases may also rise.

Despite so many things in the whole year, astronomer DK Soman said that 2010 will be known for the annular solar eclipse. “The eclipse will be visible from India on January 15. Mumbaikars will be able to watch 60% of it. The last annular solar eclipse was seen from India on July 20, 1944,” he said.
