A case of cheating has been filed against singers Suresh Wadkar and Sonu Niigaam in a Nashik court after two cheques issued by one of their associates in a land deal bounced.
One of the plaintiffs, Suresh Bodke, said he had reached a deal with Wadkar, Nigam and Hemant Kothekar in February 2008 to sell a plot of 6,600 sq m near Muktidham at Nashik Road for Rs15.8 crore.
The initial amount of Rs2.25 crore was paid and all the documents were prepared to close the deal by May that year. But thereafter there was no move on the part of the buyers to close the deal. Despite repeated reminders, Bodke said, there was no response from them. Meanwhile, two cheques, one for Rs50 lakh and the other for Rs75 lakh, drawn on the State Bank of India by Kothekar, bounced.
“The cheques given by the two celebrities were honoured on earlier occasions, but the two cheques drawn by Kothekar bounced,” said Bodke. “But as the deal is in the name of the three, the case has been filed against all of them.”
Bodke said he cannot sell the land to anyone else nor is he getting the full amount for it. “I respect the singers and even now I am ready to settle out of court,” he said.
