Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s daughter-in-law Smita has come out against the political censorship.
Without taking any name, she said on Wednesday that any
film-maker like her would not accept political censorship.
“As a film producer, I am not in favour of undue censorship by parochial groups,” she said. “Creative freedom is an integral part of civil society, a virtue on which a civilisation bases and carries on its history and culture. Our cinematic wealth would be much poorer without films like Sazaa-e-kaalapani, Garam Hawa or Pinjar.
“Fearless writers gave us gems like Ghashiram Kotwal and Mi Nathuram Godse Boltoy. However, India is no stranger to political censorship and parties have often played the censor board, much to the chagrin of artistes.”
