A six-year-old girl was raped by an unidentified man in Mahim in the early hours of Tuesday. The incident, which took place behind a small temple opposite the Mahim railway station, came to light when the victim’s father heard the girl crying.
The victim was sleeping with her parents on the footpath opposite Mint Colony in Mahim, when the unidentified man woke her up and lured her on the pretext of serving food. The accused then took the girl to a secluded place behind a nearby temple and tried to undress her. When the victim resisted and started crying, the man picked up a stone and hit her on the head and shoulder before raping her.
The victim’s father, who sells cane baskets by the roadside, heard the girl crying while on his way to the nearby public toilet. On finding his daughter lying behind the temple with injuries on her head, shoulder and private parts, the father immediately contacted the
police. The police rushed the girl to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra.
The Mahim police have launched a manhunt for the unidentified man, who had fled the spot immediately after committing the crime. “We have registered a case of kidnapping and rape against the unidentified man and a manhunt has been launched to nab the culprit,” Balasaheb Pawar, senior police inspector, Mahim police station, said. The victim is undergoing treatment at Bhabha Hospital.
